I have put things like this together before so maybe that's why I was so impressed, but I can't say enough about the ingenuity of the design. You can't expect to get an item like this in the mail and not expect to have some serious fab to do, I mean it comes in a box that's six inches thick, do the math.
The first thing I did was sit down and study the parts list and the directions and in the end I put all seven drawers together sitting in my recliner and working in my lap. It took a couple hours but that was with multiple breaks and taking my time, while watching television. All the holes are pre-drilled so the screws just slide right in and tighten down easily. The only tool I needed was a Phillips screw driver, which doubled as a hammer for tapping in the dowels and the runners.
By the time I got to the runners, I was dreading putting in more screws so I was delighted to find that they just tap into the inside of the sides, and they feel sturdy and strong.
I read other reviews first so I added wood glue to the little dowels that hold the drawer fronts on and I waxed the runners for the drawers using a small bar of scented soap, and I was very careful with the finish to not scuff it up during fabrication, and it looks professional and nice upon completion.
My single only complaint is that I feel the knobs could be something other than plastic, it really wouldn't take much to damage them and I doubt the finish on them will hold up, but other than that, excellent design, user friendly.
I read other complaints regarding how cheap it is, how it's junk, and how it smells bad. Well it is cheap, but you get what you pay for and I think it's a good value. I would not say it's junk, it is doing exactly what I bought it for, as for the smell it's the same smell any new piece of furniture would have fresh off the assembly line. Most new furniture you buy is transported to the store and has time to sit there and air out before you go in and buy it.
If you can read directions, are willing to study the parts and lay them out in order and take your time, you can put this together easily with no re-dos and you will be happy with the end result.
Cheers.
